Our Mission
Our Purpose
Unifor Local 1999’s purpose is aligned to the overall purpose of Unifor: to protect the economic rights of our members and every member of the workforce, both employed and unemployed. On behalf of our members, we strive to bargain, improve their rights in the workplace, and ensure that the standards we set help benefit all workers, even those outside of our union.
Our History
Unifor was officially formed on August 31, 2013, with the coming together of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP). This founding led to the creation of Canada’s largest private sector union and the start of a new era in the fight for workers’ rights.

What made Unifor different at a time when union membership was in decline was a fresh approach to tackling the needs of workers in a rapidly changing economy. The size and diversity of Unifor, its commitment to democratic operations, and the unwavering dedication to its members has equipped the organization to adapt and meet the needs of a modern world.
Our members know that its leadership is fully devoted to ensuring fairness in the workplace and security for their future.
